Cynthia Newcomb - Fused Glass

Cynthia Newcomb resides in Punta Gorda after a lifetime of work and raising a family in northwestern Connecticut.

Her life-long passion for flora led to the ownership of a successful floral design studio in Connecticut where she resided with her late husband. Her work in the floral industry propelled her towards exploring many different art mediums. Her background in the floral industry and a deep respect for nature is a never ending source of inspiration for Cynthia.

Fused glass has become a passion and the exploration of color, dimension and space has led her to this current endeavor. She is currently working with Spectrum Glass and fires all of her own work at her home studio. The designs begin with cutting and using many different glass products to achieve the desired design effect. While she began creating more utilitarian pieces she is gravitating towards the creation of wall and free standing art pieces.

She has been fortunate to have received over 10 commissions in her first year of working in this medium.

She is currently a member of the Visual Arts Center of Punta Gorda and has served on their board of directors as Vice President and is also a member of the Arts & Humanities Council of Charlotte County.

Since moving to Punta Gorda in 2011 Cynthia is enjoying exploring the rich art community here in Southwest Florida.
