Draw & Paint Workshop with Lucas - GILDING FOR WORKS OF ART
Join Catherine Lucas at the Visual Arts Center (VAC) and learn to use Oil Gilding.
For centuries gold leaf has been used in a variety of ways in works of art. It can be used as a background surface, or as a decorative element in a composition. Great examples of gold leafing can be seen in the earliest works of iconography, to Gustav Klimt (late 19th-early 20th C.), as well as contemporary artists.
This introductory workshop introduces students to various methods for incorporating the use of metal leaf and imitation gold leaf within works of art on panel, canvas, and paper. Gilding with oil and water-based size will be covered along with application of a topcoat to protect the gold leaf.
