Workshop with Raposa - INTRODUCTION INTO ENCAUSTICS
This workshop will give you the opportunity discover and learn about Encaustics. You will have a better understanding about its’ process and how to set up a studio of your own if you wish to continue your own exploration into Encaustics.
Encaustic is a wax-based painting medium that originated with ancient Greeks 3,000 years ago. The primary ingredients of encaustic paint are beeswax and a tree gum called damar resin. This combination is referred to as Encaustic Medium and it forms base of encaustic paint. Pigments are added to create the color wax -based paints.
This is a one-day workshop will allow you to play and experiment with Encaustic. The $50 supply fee covers all your supplies needed. You will have several 6” square birch wood substrates to work on in the morning as each instruction leads to hands on experimentation. In the afternoon a 10” square cradled board is provided to create your own Encaustic Masterpiece. All your encaustic medium and pigmented colors are provided, you will have access to various mixed mediums that may be used to build your panels. All the tools you will find necessary for creating your work will be on hand for you to use.

Deposits, Cancellations & Refunds: All workshop dates and times are subject to change. Workshops with a start date within 30 days require payment in full to reserve a place.
If the tuition for a Workshop exceeds $200, typically a space can be reserved up to 30 days prior with a non-refundable reservation deposit ranging from $45 to $60 ($36 to $48 VAC Member). If this option is available, the amount will be listed under the workshop description and will be available for space reservation online. The full balance is due 30 days prior to the workshop start date. Reservation deposits are non-refundable unless the workshop is cancelled by the VAC. Prepaid class or workshop fees (paid more than 30 days in advance) are refundable less the non-refundable reservation deposit up until 30 days prior to a class start date at which time all class and workshop fees become non-refundable unless the class is cancelled by the VAC.
Please register early. Workshops with less than five registered students may be cancelled up to 24 hours in advance of the start date. Cancellation notifications are made by email and/or telephone (including voice messages) to the email address and telephone number on file. Please check your voice mail and email prior to leaving for class.
