Develop your Pottery skills at the Visual Arts Center (VAC) with Howard Hartke. After mastering the basics of centering, pulling and shaping, explore the art of throwing larger out of round pots and other projects of the potter's choice. Advanced glaze techniques are included.

Classes include glazing (using VAC standard glazes) and firing for 1 item per session. Additional items can be glazed for $5 per item and fired for $5 per item. Clay, tools, and projects cannot be stored in the Pottery Studio. A rental locker with digital lock is available for $5 a week or $15 a month to store clay, tools, and in-progress pottery work for those not wanting to transport items. Only clay purchased at the VAC may be fired in the VAC Kilns. Additional clay may be purchased for $25 per 25 lbs. Basic pottery tools are required and can be purchased for $15.

Bring your previously purchased pottery tools or purchase a Pottery Tool Kit at the VAC Art & Supply Store for $15. Purchase a Pottery Tool Kit online (click here), by phone or in person at the VAC Front Desk. Your kit will be waiting for you on your first day of class.

Session: Class meets once each week for 3 hours and is offered in 6-week sessions for $225 (VAC Members $180), including $60 for materials & tax.

All class dates and times are subject to change. Classes with a start date within 30 days require payment in full to reserve a place. Prepaid class fees (paid more than 30 days in advance) are refundable less a non-refundable reservation deposit of $25 (VAC Members $20) up until 30 days prior to a class start date at which time all class fees become non-refundable unless the class is cancelled by the VAC.

Please register early. Classes with less than five registered students may be cancelled up to 24 hours in advance of the start date. Cancellation notifications are made by email and/or telephone (including voice messages) to the email address and telephone number on file. Please check your voice mail and email prior to leaving for class.
