Victor Gartner Bio:
V. Gartner grew up on Long Island, NY but moved to Maine after completing a Master’s degree at Western Michigan University. During those years in Maine he studied photography and watercolor but career demands greatly reduced his time for these creative outlets.
Approximately twelve years ago while wintering in North Port, FL, Gartner saw a poster advertising a workshop on scratchboard art offered by Sheryl Unwin at the North Port Art Center. There was an instant attraction to the medium. V. Gartner’s drawing skills were easily transferred to scratchboard etching. From that time most of his artwork has been scratchboard etchings of people, buildings and science fiction themes. Although scratchboard etchings are very time consuming, often requiring over 100 hours per board, Gartner finds this work to be most gratifying. He has won several awards at art shows in Massachusetts and Southwest Florida. Gartner has also been developing his skills in drawing portraits in charcoal.
V. Gartner is currently a member of the International Society of Scratchboard Artists, The North Port Art Center, and the Visual Art Center of Punta Gorda, Florida. One of his scratchboard portraits was accepted into the Annual International Scratchboard Society Show in Bradenton, FL.
