Refining Form, Function, and Process
This intermediate-level class is designed for potters who are comfortable with basic wheel-throwing or handbuilding and are ready to deepen their skills. Through focused demonstrations, guided practice, and individual feedback, students will refine form, improve consistency, and strengthen their understanding of process.
Students will explore making cohesive sets, lidded forms, pouring forms, and altered shapes, with attention given to proportion, balance, and function. Emphasis is placed on thoughtful making—centering, trimming, and surface development—while building confidence and control. This course values process over perfection, encouraging purposeful, functional work intended for daily use.
Class Format:
· 5:30 – 6:30 PM – Bring your dinner and join us for an artist video and group discussion.
· 6:30 – 9:00 PM – Studio time with demonstrations and independent work focused on developing your own “influenced” series.
By the end of the session, you’ll have created a small portfolio of works that clearly reflect your artistic influences—both in concept and execution.
