🎨 General Plein Air Essentials (All Mediums)
Portable Easel or Tripod Setup (pochade box, French easel, or watercolor eld easel)
Sturdy board or panel carrier (foam core or wet panel carrier)
Sketchbook & Pencil/Pen – for quick thumbnails or composition planning
Viewfinder or value finder
Rags or Paper Towels
Trash bag (always pack out what you bring)
Water bottle / snacks / sunscreen / hat / bug spray
Chair or stool (optional)
Lightweight backpack or rolling cart
🛢 Oil Painters
Oil paints – basic palette 
(My Palette: Titanium White, Cad Yellow Light, India Yellow, Cad Orange, Quin Red, Cobal Teal, Ultramarine Blue)
Panels or canvas boards (pre-gessoed or oil-primed; 8x10", 9x12", 11x14")
Brushes – assorted bristle and synthetic flats, filberts, and rounds (sizes 2–10)
Palette knife for mixing and scraping
Medium – Gamsol or odorless mineral spirits (in a leak-proof container)
Matal cup for solvent
Palette – wood, glass, or disposable paper
Wet panel carrier
🎨 Acrylic Painters
Acrylic paints – similar color palette to oils
Canvas boards or acrylic paper pads
Brushes – synthetic flats, filberts, and rounds
Spray bottle – to keep paints moist
Palette – stay-wet palette or disposable sheets
Water container & rag/towel


💧 Watercolor Painters
Watercolor palette – with mixing wells
Watercolor paints – artist grade pans or tubes
Brushes – rounds, ats, and a mop (sizes 6–12)
Watercolor paper – 140 lb. cold press (pad or block)
2 Water containers – one for clean, one for rinse
Paper towels or sponge
Masking tape or clips to secure paper
Portable board for support
✴ Gouache Painters
Gouache paints – primaries + white, black, and a few favorite hues
Watercolor or mixed-media paper (smooth surface preferred)
Brushes – synthetic rounds and ats
Palette – plastic or enamel tray
Water container & paper towels
Misting bottle to rewet paints
🌤 Optional but Handy
Umbrella for shade or sun diffuser
Clamp light (if painting later)
Smartphone for reference photos or value checking
Baby wipes for cleanup
Business cards (you never know who will stop by!)
