Take your wheel-throwing skills to the next level through a series of structured projects designed to expand both your technical abilities and creative confidence. This intermediate-level course is ideal for students who can consistently center clay and throw basic forms and are ready to explore more complex pottery techniques. Each project focuses on a specific skill set while encouraging personal expression and problem-solving. Students will create a variety of functional and decorative forms, which may include lidded jars, pitchers, mugs serving bowls, altered forms, and matching sets. Emphasis will be placed on refining craftsmanship, improving form and proportion, developing surface decoration, and understanding how design choices affect function. Throughout the course, students will learn techniques such as throwing larger forms, creating galleries and lids, pulling handles, altering wheel-thrown shapes, assembling multiple parts, and developing cohesive collections of work. Individual instruction and group critiques will help students identify strengths, overcome challenges, and continue developing their personal style.
This class includes $60 worth of clay, supplies, and kiln firing. Additional clay is available for purchase.
Students will learn to:
- Improve consistency and control on the pottery wheel
