Draw & Paint with Moran | PAINTING EXPRESSIONS - UNDERSTANDING EXPRESSIVE LINES IN ART
4 Weeks | Mondays 1pm-4pm | $115
Study Oil Painting Expressive Lines with Kitt Moran at the Visual Arts Center (VAC). Expressive lines are powerful tools in visual art, used not just to define shapes but to convey deep emotions, movement, and energy. Unlike rigid, purely representational lines, expressive lines can be bold, fluid, gestural, or loose, helping to communicate the artist’s feelings and set the mood of the piece.
Expressionism is a modernist movement originating in Northern Europe around the beginning of the 20th century. Its typical trait is to present the world from a subjective perspective, distorting it for emotional effect to evoke moods or ideas. Expressionist artists seek to express the meaning of emotional experience rather than physical reality.
In this course, we’ll go beyond basic drawing techniques to explore how expressive lines enhance your art. We will also delve into essential painting and drawing concepts, including:
- Value and shading to create depth
- Color mixing to evoke emotion
- Composition for balanced, dynamic artworks
